DIY Baby Rattle Cake Pops

Our contributors, Mary and Brenda Maher of Cakegirls, are back with a new DIY today! Join us as they share a new cake project with a step-by-step tutorial.... I love making cake pops. There's just something about cute little desserts on a stick that can't be beat. So, when I was enlisted to bring the desserts to a girlfriend's baby shower, it was just a matter of deciding what kind of baby themed cake pops to create. Well, this was not your average rubber ducky themed baby shower and it called for something a little more modern and a little more clever....and the baby rattle cake pop was born.

This tutorial is really nothing more than an amped up traditional cake pop laced with sparkly sugar to finish; but sometimes the simplest ideas can be the most effective. Plus, it's a really easy project to give your own creative touch. Switch up the coating color for a different theme, add gold sparkle for a modern twist, tint the cake pop filling for a gender reveal....the options are endless.

What will it be? What will it be? When you're expecting a child, that's the top question on everyone's mind. And today's feature is a thoughtful baby shower for a mom who chose to wait until the big day to find out. Building on the suspense, her family celebrated with a bright shower filled with fresh yellows and adorable bee details. It comes to us from Noelle Nielsen of Fishtale Photography who teamed up with Laurie Pyle of Cocoa & Fig to create this charming dessert display. Lovable bees buzz about a table filled to the brim with gorgeous goodies, ridiculously cute onsie cookies, and a sweet beehive cake. Welcoming Spring Flowers

April is upon us and we're really starting to see the first signs of Spring. To include those pesky spring showers. But have no fear... April showers bring May flowers, right? So to help us tolerate the all the rain to come, we're going to focus on the pretty side of that old saying with a cake that is all about the flowers. Gorgeous. Bright. Flowers! Today's design comes to us from Rachel Skvaril, owner of Fondant Flinger in New Orleans. Rachel has a flair for creating incredible spring cakes that seem to capture the warmth of the sun. We've been charmed by a lot of owl cakes over the years. But let's face it. Adorable owl cakes just never get old.... who can resist those big eyes? Especially when they come with an extra helping of sweet girly-girl fun. So today we have a new owl cake to love! A darling first birthday cake, created by Rebecca Sutterby, owner of Sugar Creations in Kansas. Shades of pink and frilly ruffles are tied together with a gorgeous pink bow. While damask and pearls add a touch of sweet elegance. Only to be topped with the most delightful little owl with big blue eyes and a tiny pink bow. It's definitely awe-inducing! Today's featured cake is one of those cakes. You know the ones that I'm talking about. The cakes where your where heart takes a little leap and you know instantly. I am in love! Maybe it's the clean lines. Maybe it's the bold colors. Maybe it's the sleek sophistication. But this cake has stolen my heart and I know you're going to fall for it too! It comes to us from Jessica Harris, of the Jessicakes Blog, and sports her signature graphic style. Black and white stripes, so crisp and neat, perfectly accented with a petite pink bow. And then there's the fabulous ruffles! Jessica is turning the ruffle trend upside down with this design. Well, I guess technically she's turning the ruffle trend on its side. But you get the idea! It might still be winter, but our forecast includes bright skies and calm waters. The perfect conditions to set sail! Today's featured cake is so full of nautical goodness, it will have you longing for the crash of ocean waves and the crisp sea air. Created by Tessa Lindow Huff of Tessa Huff Cake Design, this cake is after our water-loving hearts. The classic red, white and blue color scheme gets a charming update with an unexpected touch of pink and Tiffany blue. While bold stripes and playful polka dots meet a flag banner that is ridiculously adorable. Not to mention the inventive bottom tier with it's ripples of scallops and petite blue bow.
